Submissions

Submissions of contributed essays and proposals for work sessions will be considered for inclusion in the Workshop Program. It is requested that contributed essays not exceed 3000 words (approximately 6 pages). Approximately four half-hour slots will be available during the Workshop for presentations by the authors of selected essays. Permanent online proceedings of invited presentations and selected essays will be made available, providing an opportunity for citations. Essays not selected for presentation in one of the limited number of agenda slots will nonetheless be made available to the membership through the CC-Forum Google Group. Thus, the effort of writing an essay will not go to waste, and will have the opportunity to engender dialog at the Workshop and on the CC-Forum.

Work sessions are being planned according to the top scoring results of the CC-Forum survey. Proposals for work sessions from volunteer work session chairs will be considered, up to the capacity of the facility to accommodate parallel sessions. Proposals should include title, description, and projected session attendance (this entails an effort on the part of the session chair to canvass, privately or using the CC-Forum Google Group, prospective attendees).

Topics of Interest for Essays and Work Sessions

Possible topics for contributed essays and proposed work sessions include:

  • Practical problems in CC and improving application of the CC
  • Standards for the formation, organization and conduct of technical communities
  • Mission, objectives, and governance of the CC-Forum
  • Goals of the CC and how to (better) meet them
  • Roadmap for evolution of the CC
  • Standards and metrics for assessing and measuring assurance
  • Case studies of successful and unsuccessful applications of the Common Criteria
  • Processes, procedures, and tools to simplify and/or improve quality of evaluations
  • Theory, tools and techniques to support evaluation
  • Impediments to objective, repeatable, and internationally accepted evaluations

The preceding list is not intended to be exhaustive. Submissions are encouraged on any topics that prospective work session leaders consider relevant to the Workshop.

Important Dates

  • Essay and Work Session proposal submissions due: 29 February 2012
  • Notification of acceptance/rejection: 14 March 2012
  • Final essays due: 11 April 2012 (PDFs of all essays are due, ready for publication)
  • Workshop is held: 25-26 April 2012 (PDFs of all presentations are due by this time)

Instructions for Submission of Essays

Since the 1st Workshop of the CC-Forum is a workshop rather than a conference or symposium, submissions do not need to be entirely novel, but they do have to be interesting.

Essays should be limited to 3000 words. Essays exceeding this limit will not be reviewed. Essays should be formatted to print on A4 paper. The text should be 10 point or larger with reasonable margins. Formatting to all common single-column conference proceedings standards is acceptable.

  • By making a submission the author agrees to have the essay published in the Workshop proceedings and/or posted on the CC-Forum Google Group.

Authors who wish to submit an essay for posting with other essays associated with the workshop, but who do not wish to be considered to give a presentation, should so indicate at the time of submission. Such submissions will not be included in the electronically published proceedings but will be posted in the same place as other non-presented submissions at a time following the 11 April 2012 final copy deadline.

Presentations at the Workshop

For accepted essay submissions, essayists are expected to give a 30-minute presentation at the Workshop, and are requested to provide their presentation slides (at the time of the Workshop) for publication in the Workshop online proceedings along with their essays.

The Workshop will operate under a "No Paper, No Podium" and "No Podium, No Paper" policy. That means that if your final essay is not received by the deadline an alternate will be assigned the podium slot, and that if you do not appear to present your essay the essay will not be included in the proceedings. We need your final essay by the 11 April 2012 deadline. This includes author updates to non-presented submissions.
